Czaras is the creative project of Melbourne-based pianist, composer and producer Manuel David Vásquez, released through independent label Mighty Eagle Music.
Originally conceived in 2021 under the name Catharsis 1969, the project was born during a period of profound personal and professional adversity. Facing a mental health crisis and the uncertainty of being unable to continue working as a piano teacher, Manuel turned to songwriting and music production as a way to rebuild purpose, identity and connection. What began as a deeply personal creative outlet gradually evolved into a bold artistic vision.
Today, Czaras blends funk, city-pop, synth-pop and dance music with Anglo, Latin American and Japanese influences, creating a distinctive contemporary sound that reflects Melbourne’s multicultural creative landscape.
Since its formation, the project has performed at some of Melbourne’s well-known independent venues, including Bar 303, Open Studio, The Vineyard, The Bergy Seltzer, Bodriggy, Nevermind, Lalaland and Mammachen’s. These performances have helped shape the project’s artistic identity while establishing connections within Victoria’s contemporary music community.
Now entering a new chapter, Czaras is shifting its focus from a traditional live-performance model towards a sustainable audience development strategy that combines original music, digital storytelling and innovative marketing. Supported by Mighty Eagle Music, the project is committed to building meaningful connections with audiences, creating opportunities for creative collaboration and developing an internationally competitive career from Victoria.
For Czaras, music is no longer simply about performance—it is about transformation, resilience and creating genuine cultural connections that extend far beyond the stage.
